Politicians these days (and always) are of the elites and don't give a damn about the working class. The working class has no money or power and cannot bribe or otherwise pressure the politicians, as does the oligarchy. It's pretty bad when lobbyists for the corporations write the bills and carry them to Congress to give the to their bought and paid for representatives.
The working class, unlike large corporations, does not have highly paid lobbyist, so politicians don't pay much attention to them with some obvious exceptions.
Politicians never pay attention to this. It seems to be an universal problem.
