Place of Interest-ABC WEDNESDAY "P"

A Place of Interest Where a Person of Interest
Lived and Wrote a Famous Novel

F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of our boys, ya know, lived in this house on 599 Summit Avenue when he wrote his first novel. In the coming weeks I will post a few of the homes in which he lived and the places where he would hang out.

Scott had met Zelda, his future wife, while serving in the army. Originally she had not wanted to marry Scott because of his uncertain financial future, but after the publication of the novel, she apparently changed her mind. They did not remain long in Minnesota and led a busy, often debt-ridden existence, as international icons of the Jazz Age.

The first non-Minnesota person who correctly identifies the title of this novel will get a postcard from St. Paul from me!!

PS.  Don't forget to post a photo tomorrow for the May 1st Theme: Squares

Paper Cut Outs (gouaches découpés)-Matisse

Towards the end of his life after being diagnosed with cancer and confined to a wheelchair, Matisse added another artistic genre to his wide-ranging talents. . . paper cut outs.  He called it "painting with scissors."  This one is part of the Matisse exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Sweet Little Wall Hanging

May Theme Day ALERT: On the first of May, City Daily bloggers will be posting their contributions to the month's theme: SQUARES.  To provide a little encouragement and some impetus for myself, I found this sweet little quilted wall hanging that could qualify, but I'll keep looking.  Find a photo, or be square!!

Matisse Exhibit

The Matisse exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts will be there until May 18th. If you go to see all his work, you will not be disappointed; instead you will have a greater appreciation for his talent. I included his self-portrait for your viewing pleasure. This week I will include more of his pieces that are on exhibit.

Things are Looking UP!!

On yesterday's post I showed you the snowy scene at the beginning of April that greeted us when we arrived from our snowbird vacation, but things now look decidedly more hopeful.  After coming out of a restaurant yesterday, I was greeted by this welcoming sight in a flower box on the street.

Good Fences

Escaping the harsh Minnesota winter, we spent months in Santa Fe, New Mexico, our favorite winter hideaway.  Timing our arrival home at the beginning of April, this scene greeted us the first morning home!

Outstanding Theatre-ABC WEDNESDAY 'O'

The establishment of the Guthrie Theatre in the Twin Cities has been a signature event for theatre here.
The photo of Sir Tyrone Guthrie is located on the outside wall of the new Guthrie Theatre.

Although I am happy to attend performances in the current theatre alongside the Mississippi River, I still mourn the loss of the original building shown here.

Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday in 2012, Jim and I attended the Roman Catholic service at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannnah, Georgia. Since taking photos was not restricted, I was able to snap a photo of an important part of the Mass. I offer this Easter Sunday image to those of you for whom this day has religious significance.

Welcome Home!

After being gone several months to escape the harsh Minnesota winter weather, it was good to be welcomed home by our granddog, Lexi. Normally she fears my Canon camera, but she didn't mind the iPhone camera.
Guess she's just an Apple dog!
