Jim and I took our dog Maggi to the Pitt Bridge Park, saw three fisherman and talked to one of them at great length. Nikita, who has been in the Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, area for about 5 years, is from Rudnyy, Kazakhstan. He said he came here to be with some of his friends and added that he was working now. He didn't elaborate but added that he would eventually like to go to college in the area, if he can earn enough money. Jim talked to him about the possibility of seeking financial aid and researching scholarships. Hope that he follows that path.

I hope he is able to go to school. The piers look like they are individual fishing piers, thats pretty neat.
ReplyDeleteLooks like he's taking advantage of the fishing. I love the difference between his clothes and Jim's clothes. I can tell which one is from Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a nice young man. Let's hope he takes Jim's advice. I can almost hear sea gulls! Love the coast...
ReplyDeleteYou can certainly tell the snowbirds from the locals by their apparel. Nice portrait!
ReplyDeleteLooks like he's ready for a breeze or some cool weather.
ReplyDeletehope his dreams can come true...
ReplyDeleteNice portrait. I'm surprised he talked to you at all...legal or illegal...what do you think?
ReplyDeleteDid he catch any fishies? And why is he all bundled up and DH is in a tee shirt. Oh, that's right, you guys are from Minnesota and don't think 50 degrees is cold! :-))
I hope he gets the chance to go to college. It's worth it.
ReplyDeleteA very nice story, and I hope that you have given Nikita a copy of this wonderful portrait you made.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
our lives are so enriched by these types of encounters.
ReplyDeleteOh that's funny Kate, as the others have said the clothes couldn't be any more different. That was so nice of Jim to give this young fellow some advice, interesting to see if he takes it.
