Postcard Friendship Friday

Visiting Historic Fort Snelling
Discover an 1820's military outpost once the focus of a small settlement but now at the center of Minnesota's Twin Cities metropolitan area.

A full living history program with costumed guides is presented daily during the summer, and on weekends in May, September and October.

Fort Snelling was not only at the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, but it was also the confluence of peoples. The histories of the people of Minnesota intersect at the fort, and guests can explore these diverse stories within its walls. (Minnesota Historic Society)

  1. It sounds like the show they put on would be enjoyable. I had not heard of Fort Snelling.

  2. I think visiting historic locations is always more fun when there are costumed guides ready to explain what life was like in those days.

  3. This is a great card! Thanks for sharing.

  4. I was thinking while looking at your post today, how little we learned of your area while growing up. There was NYC,Detroit, Chicago, then LA going further west. If not for The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Vikings, it might still be a hidden gem.

  5. When I had to go to Minneapolis for work, I would pass here on the way into the city and the way out to the airport. I always used the light rail system which I loved.

  6. just the other day i received my first Minnesota card and when i was making a post about it, i realized that i barely know anything about it...its funny to come across this post just shortly afterwards, but it makes me *fix* my ignorant Minnesota part a bit...thanks :)

    and Happy PFF!

  7. How absolutely cool! Happy PFF!

  8. Stopping by from Marie's. I bet that is a great place to visit with the kids.

  9. Howdy
    Happy PFF.
    Great information today.
I was not familiar with anything about historic Fort Snelling.
    Great postcard :)
    Thank you for sharing!
    Have an awesome weekend.
    Happy Trails

  10. I love this card! They have made an aspect of history look so attractive.

  11. I can't say I've been there. Maybe I have, but I have forgotten about it.

I have read, though, about it being used as a sort of concentration camp for the Eastern Dakota/Sioux before they were booted out of Minnesota.

  12. I've been to Minneapolis but not St Paul. Thanks for posting this. Amazing how they used those things. If I were there I'd probably go check it out.

I came over from Marie's and enjoyed your blog.

  13. Wow! I would just love to visit Fort Snelling! It sounds like historical fun for the whole family! Happy PFF:)

  14. Cool! This is really neat "seeing the world" through PFF (a day late, LOL!)

  15. I served in the Navy at Wold Chamberlain Field...close to Ft. Snelling...and both of my in-laws are buried at Ft. Snelling.

    It is a beautiful cemetery...

Thanks for visiting my blog; I appreciate it! Come back often!!
