The Greatest Generation #3
The History Center exhibit on the Greatest Generation included artifacts from WWII as well as the cultural/social posts I showed you before. Bringing home souvenirs from combat is a common practice during warfare, and one soldier brought back this German armband, which ultimately ended up in the History Center's collection. The small photo is a piece of equipment from WWII also.

cela rappelle de mauvais souvenirs ;o(. un bien triste drapeau, mais il faut se souvenir pour ne pas recommencer les mêmes horreurs
ReplyDeleteit reminds of poor memories ;o(. a very sad flag, but it is necessary to remember not to start again the same terror
I'm just relieved to hear that armband was in a museum. I hope it stays there.
ReplyDeleteThe "spoils of victory."
ReplyDeleteShocking image, it fits perfectly in a museum.
ReplyDeleteshocking indeed. I just couldn't believe it when i saw the thumbnail.
ReplyDeletewell, this part is over, thanks God for that!
ReplyDeleteI love going to exhibits to see things like this.
ReplyDeleteA good friend of mine in Georgia has his Dad's metal canteen from WWII. His Dad has scratched in the names of all the battles he survived such as Anzio. He was in so many big battles it seemed a miracle he lived through the war.
It looks almost new. Our local museum has a Japaneese flag from WWII, but in very bad shape.
ReplyDeleteI could go for a summer festival. Maybe near a pool or sprinkers.
Even now the sight of that armband logo sens chills down the spine.
