I was not aware that currants are considered to be berries. Berry means any small fruit that can be eaten whole and lacks objectionable seeds.
Some are: Blueberries,(Vaccinium spp.); Currants,(Ribes spp. Grossulariaceae);Strawberries,(Fragaria);Raspberries, several species (genus Rubus)...your favorite? Raspberries for me--hands down!!

ReplyDeletea nice crop in the market, nice fruits, I love this.
Just love the red fruits of summer. We don't see so many black, red and white currants here - they exist but not as many as strawberries, raspberries, cherries and blueberries. Ah summer!
ReplyDeleteBlueberrys for me, I love them in fried pies....oh yumm. Raspberry is my favorite kool-aid though.
ReplyDeleteI never saw Currents before yesterday in our local Farmer's Market. I have a whole new world I am being exposed to.
ReplyDeleteraspberries, closely followed by blueberries! lovely colors...
ReplyDeleteMy favourite dessert is a mixture of them all with just a bit of whipped cream. I would of course accept to eat them seperately also, even without cream! Just too good all this!

ReplyDeleteI am hoping, Kate, my two currant bushes will produce enough next summer for me to get a handful. I will have to propagate them and made several more. I really like currant jam and it brings back a lot of memories. We can buy it here at Krogers large supermarket. I like your post and your photos.
