A Visit from the Fire Department

At our recent National Neighborhood Night Out gathering (see photos here) we were visited by several different "public servant" groups, including a fire truck.  Much to the delight of the children and a few adults, we were allowed to enter and examine the rig.  I was most interested by the panel of dials and instruments attached to the rear of the fire engine.  How can we adequately thank these people for their dedication and service?!

The kids loved to play in the spray of water coming from this hydrant that was opened for a short time of immense pleasure by the children.

  1. I think our firefighters are doubtless the most under-recognized of all pubic servants. These folks have a very difficult and very dangerous job and not a lot of public support. I like to see events like this - perhaps they will help build public support and recognition.

  3. That really is a lot of dials for them to keep track of, but I'm sure it's second nature to a firefighter to know what goes where.

  6. I wouldn't even know how to turn it on if that's what you do :) Glad to have dedicated people who enjoy doing their job for the safety of the public. Growing up, one of my friend's father was a firefighter and we got a personal tour and even got to slide down the pole that led to the fire trucks. We were very impressed and I've always remembered that.
Have a wonderful weekend Kate and a hello to WW.

  7. They let adults on, too? Around here, similar events are for the children. Maybe I will stand in line next time.

  8. Wonderful instrument panel. Must take considerable knowledge to learn to run one of these engines. Generations of kids have loved playing in the spray from a hydrant.
