Tony Hillerman
Prolific Southwest Writer
Navajos' Best Friend
Because I have a love affair with New Mexico, and I miss it when I am not there, I decided to read many, if not most, of his novels. Have collected 12 used paperbacks in order of publication, and I am on a journey with Hillerman and the Navajos!
I have loved them all!
ReplyDeleteAlways an eventful 'trip' when we lock into one of these series/author.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try his books. I've had a long love affair with the work of Louise Erdrich.
ReplyDeleteIt will be an entertaining and educational ride!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever read anything by this author!
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't read any of his books yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've read any of these books, but I know the feeling. I've read almost all of W.E.B. Griffin's books...had collected them all to read again some time but figured I'll never do that so gave them to the Salvation Army!
ReplyDeleteI read the first book in the series a few months ago, and enjoyed enough that I would read another. Have fun working your way through the series!
ReplyDeleteI do that with my favourite authors too..
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! I am re-reading all the Tony Hillerman novels right now. I wanted to read the series again because I first read them when we still lived in New Hampshire and were looking forward to moving to New Mexico. Now that we've been in New Mexico for several years I am enjoying the books even more. Just think, Kate, when you are finished with Tony's books, you can continue with the series by reading his daughter's novels. I've read her "Spider Woman's Daughter" so far and it was a page turner!
ReplyDeleteI read three or four Hillerman books several years ago, but none recently. Hope you like them.
ReplyDeleteThat should keep you busy.
ReplyDeleteWe've read 'em all and even met Hillerman once at a reading in San Francisco. During a couple of our southwest camping trips we read two or three of them as we visited the areas he writes about. "Thief of Time" is arguably his best but it's great to start at the beginning and work through them (all!) to watch the characters develop. (And I'm pleased to read clairz comment above; I didn't know his daughter was continuing his series. That's good news!)
ReplyDeleteHere is a New Mexico magazine article about him that I read recently: http://www.nmmagazine.com/article/?aid=93374#.VgwT1umJn8t
DeleteIronic that I lived in the Southwest for so many years and never read any of Tony Hillerman's work. It's always been one of those "get a round tuit" things. I do tend to read an author's books in order. Shortly after coming to Texas I started on a mystery author's books whose stories are set in St. Paul and the area of Minnesota and Wisconsin. I was devouring them so fast I had to quit because I was afraid I'd get to the end of the list and I would be at a loss, so I need to pick up those again. You probably know who I'm referring to!
