Quilt Sign

This could not strictly qualify as a mural or sign, but  I think I could post it for either one.  On July 6th I introduced you to Lindstrom, MN, a small town that is proud of its Swedish heritage.  One of the photos was a barn quilt sign. I found another of these designs painted boldly on an upper outside wall of a house in Stockholm, WI on a recent road trip: large and very noticeable!

  1. I like the pattern and colors, that would look good as a room size floor rug too.

  2. I thought of the east when I saw it. Maybe Japan. Nice colors.

  5. I love seeing these because they're so totally rare, if they exist at all, in Texas and then through the Southwest. I am surprised considering the number of cultures that were influential in settling Texas throughout the 1800s, including Swedes. One reason may be because in our climate barns are seldom used to shelter livestock, usually only hay or machinery and therefore they're not very large and in more recent times are built of corrugated metal so they aren't conducive to such lovely artwork.

  10. It makes quite a statement! The design almost looks Middle Eastern to me.
