I wasn't really thinking about the September theme,
Curiosities, when I saw this. . . whatever it is, plying the waters of the Sturgeon Bay, Wi channel, a waterway that allows boats and ships to travel between Lake Michigan and Green Bay waters. There was no-one around who could identify this floating
curiosity for me. Perhaps it is a good lead-in to tomorrow's theme. Do you know what this "barge" is?!
Added later: After I maxed the photo, the yellow sign reads:

EUREKA! I found the answer. Check
this link; it is surface water management, getting all the weeds and invasive "stuff." It's an interesting video; go watch it. I should have googled this in the first place!
Looks like me that It harvest aquatic plants, algae or mussels or something maritimes and deposit it in a follow up barge.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a very long time since I lived on the Mississippi River but, it looks like a dredge to me.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was of some dredging being done, but the outfit he's wearing and his onlooker, at his side, tell me no.

ReplyDeleteThe weed is a big plaque here too, Boat owners are complaining that their motors are destroyed by the plants. This is a great machine to get rid of them.

ReplyDeleteI actually knew that! I've seem them in operation, tearing through the weeds to keep channels clear. This one is nicely painted.
