Typewriter in the Window
Garrison's Bookstore
******
Garrison Keillor's bookstore is a popular spot for book purchases and author readings.  I can't tell if the typewriter displayed in the window is or isn't an Underwriter that belonged to him.  Guess I'll have to go to the shop and ask him.

  1. I've always loved old typewriters and would far rather have an old manual than an electric.

  4. I wish I had the old typewriter that I used as a child, which looked like the one in your photo.

I wrote my own version of a newspaper as a 5th grader. Lining up the columns for the baseball standings was a chore.

  5. Is this an independent bookstore? They are rare now days. We have one, but its more of a new & used bookstore, I love it.

  7. Saw him 2 years ago. It WAS a treat. Storytellers are such a 'gift'.

  8. You don't see many typewriters any more. My Mother had one that looked like that one and she let me use it to learn to type. She even taught me how to change the ribbon.

December is the birthday month for our house too!

  11. I saw GK in Albany at the university a couple years ago. Also saw the PHC movie, since I listened to his show forever. Yay for the independent book sellers!

  14. Happy Birthday DH! I cannot recall how long its been since I last used a typewriter. I like the idea of an old school typewriter but nowadays I just send the odd email..

  15. I've read some of Keillor's works and enjoyed them a lot. He's funny guy. I doubt if he's used that typewriter in recent years but maybe in the past. Yes, go ask him. Please.

    And Happy BD to DH!

  18. And who hasn't typed on an Underwood? I mean, those of us who are old enough...

  19. Cool. If he wants to have a bookstore, more power to him.

I saw Keillor and his team put on a Prairie Home Companion show live one time. It was impressive that they could put on an hour-long show without notes, and then do a completely different one the next week.

  20. How neat that you can just go ask Garrison Keillor a question!

  21. Another Keillor fan...

  22. I saw Keillor two or three times in California, standing up on his own (well, Roy Blount, Jr. was with him once) and wearing his trademark red socks. Remarkably funny - better, I think, than Prairie Home Companion. How nice that he has a bookstore!

  23. Calling by as another ABC Wednesday participant, what a wonderful old typewriter.

  24. I'm a big fan of GK, and of PHC. I had no idea that this bookstore had a brick and mortar (have seen the online version). How great that you can just stroll in any old time! Love the typewriter photo!
