Another Decade?
Mural from Another Age
Humphrey and Jimi
I saw this rather battle-scarred message on a wall by a parking lot in Dinkytown near the University of Minnesota campus. Although the mural has seen better days, it harkens back to a different period of time, although the message, "Give Peace a Chance," and "Make Love Not War," are dreams of major importance.

It looks like Humphrey is giving the peace sign. If he had been a little less loyal to LBJ and embraced the pace movement, he might have been President. What a difficult set of circumstances he faced in 1968, and he was such a deserving and inspirational (at least to me) leader.
ReplyDeleteThis mural really is a dated expression.
ReplyDeleteThis is like stepping way, way back in time!
ReplyDeletebelle fresque murale avec un tres bon slogan
ReplyDeleteAh, the 60s. I remember them well. Love the mural!
ReplyDeleteThat brings back memories! A blast from the past!
ReplyDeleteWow, that one brings back lots of memories.
ReplyDeleteI love this one! Great colors and theme. I'd definitely visit Burrito Loco. :)
ReplyDeleteThe good old days?!?
ReplyDeleteMan, that is going back a long way. RedPat says those were the good old days? Surely not. I remember them as extremely difficult and painful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment about my plans for my blog. I know that you open multiple new blogs for your extended visits elsewhere, but I don't think it would work for me. I don't want the hassle of a fullscale Florida daily blog. I am content to show only occasional Florida photos and keep the rest focused on Hartford. But, we all think differently, don't we?
Good catch.
ReplyDeleteJimi I recognized, but not Humphrey. Love the Rubber Soul letters extolling Make Love Not War. Still a laudable goal though now further from being attainable than it was then. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteYep, those days seem so long ago now.
ReplyDeleteGood memories Kate and an eternal hope..peace, one day we can only wish.
ReplyDeleteWow - that is a walk down history lane. Love the make love not war comment on the bottom, and in the appropriate type face besides.
