I would have a very hard time living anywhere permanently which is not close to water. I love the Mississippi and the Great Lakes. It's both primal and part of my genetic code!

VISUAL SAINT PAUL
Looks impressive, one of the most amazing rivers of the world!
ReplyDeleteYour photo today brings back lots of memories. I lived in St. Louis i junior high and high school and was a member of a Sea Scout troop. We had two sailboats moored just above Alton Lock & Dam, where the river is a mile wide. Although technically sail boats have the right of way over any motorized vessel, we obviously stayed away from the barge traffic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. The Mississippi, like the ocean, is mesmerizing. I can hear "Ole Man River" in my head now.
so many of us are drawn to the water, even those of us who have suffered when the water grows enraged around us. must be something in our dna.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful life.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I thought I needed to be close to the sea but the Thames in London has its own magic that I truly love.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I miss about not living in Illinois is not seeing the barges on the river. I love watching them lumber up and down the Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteNot me, I am too much of desert rat. I would not mind being close to a lake but I would never want to live near the ocean. Looks like a fun little cruise.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Brings back good memories of sitting high looking down on the Mississippi.
ReplyDeletePerhaps during the winter you'd trade the Great Lakes the the Mississippi for Florida's west coast?
Whenever we venture back to Illinois, we make a point of spending time on the banks of the Mississippi to watch the tugs and barges going by. I do miss it so much, so I'm loving these pictures.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate...re your comment on The Villages: That evening there were some small cameras and people did take photos...but, hey, if you've seen one gator you've seem them all!
ReplyDeleteActually, I took a bunch of picture of the gator...he wasn't very big, though and nothing special. Some of those people were throwing him food which is a big "no-no." They couldn't read the signs, I guess.
Wonderful framing on that first shot with the trees. We love to count the number of barges. On the Mississippi (much further south) you can see them 8 across and 8 long - wow!
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Great Mississippi River photos! I always love to look upstream and/or downstream as we drive into and out of St. Paul!
ReplyDeleteYup I agree Kate, and The Mississippi is one of the widest, most beautiful rivers in the world. I feel the same about living on the coast, would hate to live away from the clean sea air.
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents lived in Chicago when I was growing up and we spent many summers at the Indiana dunes. I'm glad to be back in Lake Country. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I would find it hard to live away from water too.
ReplyDeleteI understand exactly how you feel, Kate. I feel the same about the sea. lovely shots.
