Skywatch Friday

I have three Apple products (iMac, AirMac notebook, and iPhone), none of which have truly failed me...until this week. After 11 years of faithful service storing the bulk of my photos, the iMac has decided to fail me.  After two 3-hour sessions with the Apple Genius Bar,  and numerous telephone conferences with Apple Tech people, the wonderful young technicians informed me that the age of the almost-obsolete model could not be updated to accommodate me. Fortuately, I also had the photos  on a mobile back-up monitor. Lucky? No! Suffice it to say, that I am not giving up. . .even after two days in front of a computer, I have not safely saved the photos by importing them elsewhere (about 9 hours of uploading attempts). It is complicated! I don't know if I posted the above image before,  but I checked the few photos I have stored in my notebook and found this one for Skywatch Friday,

  1. Nice reflection. I use Google Photo Backup for my photos.

  4. Beautiful reflection shot!! I live in fear of my computer crashing, and back up on a regular basis to an external hard drive. Technology is wonderful when it works, and hellacious when it doesn't!

  5. I hope you're able to retrieve the rest. A good reason to back up photos in more than one place.

  6. So sorry about your computer problems. I've had good luck with Apple products, too, but they can go the way of lesser machines. Each of my Mac products is hooked up to a hard drive used exclusively (pretty much) for backing up my system and documents and photos. I've never had to test these backups, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything will work if need be.

Love this photo. I don't recall seeing it before. Hang in there; make sure you back up everything; have a glass of wine; chill out. This is one of those things that ultimately doesn't really matter. I've got all these photos and I'll be gone soon and who will want them? Not the kids. They've got their own stuff. Smile! 😎

  7. Oh my, that story does frighten me. I purchased my MacBook in 2008 (yikes, 10 years ago) and it is showing its age (just like me). I really do need to replace it but frankly, I hate thinking about all that is involved. Good luck with your project.

  8. My computer is also very old and I'm in the need of a new one. This is the reason I've been off CDP comunity. (The photo treatment program I use is not compatible anymore.)
As to the photos, I keep them in the clouds of Google Photos.
I wish you luck with the problems

  9. The old computer saw is, "Back up, back up, back up." Yes, I know I don't back up as much as I should. Sorry to hear about your troubles. You do have a great reflections photo.
