St. Croix River
I have often seen these river boats on the Mississippi but seldom on the St Croix River that forms a border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Last Sunday DH and I drove to Stillwater to view the new bridge, which was impressive. The main street of Stillwater is still crowded with visitors, tourists, traffic and quaint shops plus restaurants galore. We passed some time at the park and walkway along the river to watch the boats and pleasure crafts. The lift bridge was busy with all the river traffic, but now, at long last, traffic is not blocking the streets because automobile traffic is closed on the old bridge, with the new one serving Minnesota and Wisconsin drivers.

Lovely capture of the cruise boat with the classic bridge in the background!
ReplyDeleteThere's something similar here on the Ottawa River that I've seen a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever ridden on one of these? I haven't and think it might be a fun experience.
ReplyDeletePS. I just read the funniest story in the New York Times about the raccoon who climbed the UBS building in St. Paul.
Great pic of the old dear!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful boat. Great story about the raccoon. I followed the drama via twitter.
ReplyDeleteThese stern wheelers are great looking river boats with a long history. Good to see one underway.
ReplyDeleteWhat a classic old riverboat. I didn't know they still had them around...but then I really don't see much river traffic, so anything is a novelty.
ReplyDeleteI always loved Stillwater and there was a time when I had a part-time job there on Sundays. But I didn't realize the bridge had been redone. Aren't these river boats quite common on the upper part of the St. Croix River?
