Sweet Surprise!!
Friends are wonderful! Most of our friends know that we are beginning the process of downsizing with the intention of selling our home to move into a condo or apartment, which will simplify our lives. Yesterday a FedEx truck arrived with a delightful surprise. Knowing that our children grew up in this house that obviously has sentimental value for them, an artist friend living in Florida rendered this beautifully matted and framed painting for us. Because our house has such straight lines, she softened it by subtle tones of barely perceptible colors to both the bricks and the roof tiles (which you cannot see in the photo, unfortunately). She painted the exact number of window panes and added the flag, hanging red geranium plants on the porch (my nod to gardening), the flowering crabapple tree and Maggi wearing her red, white, and blue Fourth of July scarf. She even included our neighbor's huge Maple tree. Friends are wonderful!!

ReplyDeleteSo thoughtful and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is a fine gift, one that will be meaningful to you in the coming years.
ReplyDeleteMy West Hartford days will probably also be ending in the next year or so. I have some contractors doing deferred maintenance while I am away, there will be summer yard sales, and a dumpster will be in the driveway. I don't look forward to the work.
What a wonderful gift! And I'm with Perth: your friends ARE wonderful!

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat surprise...and a wonderful keepsake.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful home and that painting is a treasure. I understand the feeling as to what you're doing. We lived in condos for a number of years in south Florida then came to Ocala and bought a home. After five years or so, we sold and moved to a villa in a 55+ community (villa with common wall). We hated everything about living in that kind of situation - felt like a prison to us (fancy, but still prison!). So we bought another home and we're very happy. This one has no pool and less landscaping than our first so it's easier to care for.
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful gift.
