The loss of a book store in favour of a black hole like Target is a shame. We have Target up here now... lousy selection, barely stocked shelves, prices that really don't compete. They're a blight.
This would most likely have been a franchise. It is not about the shop-keepers. It is about the customers. People whose only consideration is cheapness are turning our world on its head. I buy both ways: online, and in person. There is no substitue for flicking the pages, and burying one's nose in a newly minted book.
Target and K-Mart will open where they think there is custom. So they are not cheapening your neighbourhood. Your residents are, by shopping with price as their overwhelming criterion..
That is too bad. I probably miss the closed independent bookstores a lot more than the loss of a Barnes & Noble, but losing any kind of bookstore is sad. Target? I don't have anything against them. I shop there from time to time. The March of "Progress."
It was nice to see you today. Stay in so you do not have a relapse. I feel sure that you got a flu shot? Guess it is not the best time to brag about our son in law...Head of the CDC Influenza Dept......
I was just talking to someone the other day about bookstores that are no longer in business. I guess B&N is lucky this is just one location, unlucky for you. I can remember B. Dalton, Borders, Waldenbooks.
awww.

ReplyDeleteOurs closed years ago.
ReplyDeleteNoooo! Don't you just wonder about the world these days Kate, it's all about money!

ReplyDeleteThis is awful, what ia a world without a bookstore. Unfortunately , it is the same here.
ReplyDeleteInsert unhappy face.
ReplyDeleteI heard somewhere that B&N will have to close stores soon if things didn't change. That's too bad, but I do like Target.
ReplyDeleteOh my. makes me want to support my local bookstore by going to buy a book.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Janey and Co.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty hard for B&N to compete with Amazon, although the stores in Ocala and The Villages seem to be doing very well.
ReplyDeleteTarget has gone downhill, I think. We rarely shop there anymore.
I've seen a few of these sad buildings here too. In fact, I'm not sure where I'd go to find a real book store these days.
ReplyDeleteSad! :-(
ReplyDelete#@&^ you Amazons and other online book sellers! My feeling.
ReplyDeleteYUCK! I love visiting a bookstore looking for something great to read. Very sad indeed.

ReplyDeleteNo matter who replaces them, it's so sad to see bookstores close. The way of the world, I am afraid.
ReplyDeleteUgh! You have my sympathy. The only thing worse would be a Walmart.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy when venturing out and don't overdo it. Many of us would be unhappy to be without your blog and photos.
