Interesting history and a beautiful building! It's interesting that the "U.S. Customs House" on the front wasn't added until 1964. You'd think that by then people would pretty much know the place. ;->
I'm afraid we will never see beautiful buildings like this being built, the cost is just to high. Now everything built is boxy and generic. An Arkies Musings

Oh, yes, I remember the customs house. I took a nice photo from down low, with the iron fence doing the framing.
