Last night DH and I went to Mears Park in St. Paul to attend the 3-day hot Jazz Fest which began 14 years ago, and which is getting bigger and bigger every year. One of the groups we heard on the Main Stage was the Cuban Safari. Cuban-born drummer Francisco Mela is a favorite among jazz's elite instrumentalist. He proved to be a crowd favorite here, too.
This group is just a small portion of the people attending the event who moved from stage to stage at scheduled times to hear a variety of jazz bands. The crowd increased in numbers as the day wore on.
Check the link above to get a good idea of the entertainment and program sponsored by the city fathers (gotta love those politicians!)
I think you showed photos of this last year as well, unless I am remembering an outdoor blues festival that you attended.
ReplyDeleteAppears to be a rousing success from the size of the crowd shown at just one stage. Wonderful use for the Park also.
ReplyDeleteSummer concerts... gotta love 'em!
ReplyDeletei bet that was great!
ReplyDeleteI'd love that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic smile!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love outdoor summer concerts, Kate? I can't get enough of them. Jazz, rock, classical, it just doesn't matter. Your drummer has a happy smile doing what he loves doing.
ReplyDeleteNothing like an outdoor jazz concert. This one sounds great.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun, and very well attended. I'm looking forward to our annual Lavender Festival in mid-July. Many of our lavender farms have live music and it's usually worth a listen.
ReplyDeleteThe Jazz Fest sounds great!
ReplyDeleteLove the happy smile of the beautiful drummer!
My kind of event.
ReplyDeleteSuper way to enjoy a warm summer evening.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun concert!!!
