Mississippi River Junk
This sculpture was made entirely from debris and junk that was taken from the Mississippi River by dedicated volunteers, trying to keep the river clean and navigable for those of us who believe that it's a national treasure. If you look closely, you can see a kite and fishing rods. The lower portion contains rusted metal junk. It's a disturbing sight!

i think it's remarkable art made from found materials. it marries so beautifully the place where the pieces were found with the theme of the "sculpture".
ReplyDeleteSomeone very clever has made something lovely from something ugly. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is great, especially because of the message in it.
ReplyDeleteFrom ugliness to art.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand why people destroy the environment so casually, like the guy in the pickup recently who just tossed a cup into the street as he drove by.
ReplyDeleteBut, this is a pertinent memorial to such impertinence and destructiveness. Good job to those involved. If it makes even one person take the "sanctity" of the environment more seriously it will be worth it.
what a great way to remind folks to stop polluting.
ReplyDeleteAs a piece of art, I am fascinated. As a human being, I am disgusted. What a statement this piece makes...

I am always amazed by what I see floating in the river. Trulely amazing and depressing. I am back online again thanks to Mitch.
ReplyDeleteGreat job of recycling.
ReplyDeleteI never could understand why people throw junk into the rivers. Do they think that just because it sinks it is gone?
ReplyDeleteA big THANK YOU to those who clean up the other folks mess.
Sharon and I have been posting some pictures of the stretch of the Mississippi that we grew up on in our other blog.
A visual statement indeeed, I hope everyone who sees it understands the meaning.
ReplyDeleteFascinating artwork, must of taken a long time to do. Thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not creative enough to imagine what they could make from the debris floating in Asian rivers... Disturbing, indeed. I wonder whether the "debris sculpture" does any good as an awareness-raising tactic?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing. Living in a rural area, we see so much trash dumped along our country roads by others - old toilets, ice chests, beer cans, even old clothes, you name it. Humans are such slobs!
ReplyDeleteThat is definitly one way to draw attention to what is floating in our rivers, and oceans. A great reminder
ReplyDeleteI think it's a clever way to recycle junk. But it IS disturbing that humans are so doggone messy!
ReplyDeleteOne mans junk..several men's junk. It is clever but depressing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely piece of art. I hope people learn something from it.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to admire here. The art. The skill. The humor. The civic mindedness to clean the river.
ReplyDeleteSuch cool that the took trash and created something nice to look at.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of artwork. It is sad that so many people dump their trash. Thanks for sharing, happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to recycle! Excellent capture.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
Very creative.
ReplyDeleteVisiting a little late from Camera Critters, here's my entry, hope you can still take a peek, your comment will be greatly appreciated.
Interesting Art and good idea.
ReplyDeleteAnything can be made into art if you are creative. Nice job in finding beauty in junk and keeping the river clean!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous way to use that floating and sunken debris! Where, exactly, is the sculpture?
