Many of you know that Ray Bradbury recently died. He is better known for the publications of Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and Something Wicked This Way Comes than for Dandelion Wine, which is a semi-autobiographical novel. I used to have my middle school students read DW, which they all loved. Do yourself a favor and read it.
Do you know why teachers use me? Because I speak in tongues. I write metaphors. Every one of my stories is a metaphor you can remember."
so many of us saw our world with the veil lifted because of this remarkable writer. and we never saw the world the same again.
ReplyDeleteI shall do that after I read Fahrenheit 451. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteHave never read any of Bradbury's works, but will take your counsel and pick up a copy of Dandelion Wine!
ReplyDeleteGreat recommendation and wonderful tribute. Bradbury opened many doors in my imagination with the stories he told.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school, I had a friend who liked to say "The rabid rabbit was a rabid Ray Bradbury fan."
ReplyDeleteJust a silly tongue twister. My friend is now a distinguished law professor holding an endowed chair.
Personally, I think F451 should be required reading for any perp who wants to be a politician! And every high school/college student, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. That one I had not read.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of his books either Kate, will have to amend that asap!
ReplyDeleteGood! I'm always looking for recommendations of good books. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI was sorry to read of his passing.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Kate, for recommending it. I will reserve it from my library.
