Tatra T87 Sedan- ABC WEDNESDAY "T" at MIA

The Tatra 87 is a car built by Czechoslovak manufacturer Tatra. It was praised by German officers in World War II for the superior speed and handling it offered for use on the Autobahn. It was powered by a rear-mounted 2.9-litre air-cooled 90-degree overhead cam V8 engine that produced 85 horsepower and could drive the car at nearly 100 mph (161 km/h). It is ranked among the fastest production cars of its time, competing cars in this class, however, used engine with almost twice the volume and consumption of 20 liters. Thanks to aerodynamic shape it has consumption of just 12.5 liters.

  1. And I wonder why it never "caught on." The price maybe? Remember the stainless steel DeLorean? I actually once knew someone who owned one of those.

  4. I had never heard of this.

Jay Leno's enthusiasm for classic cars is well known. I hope his collection is preserved.

One year Julie and I were on vacation and were driving to a restaurant in Beverly Hills. We were stopped at a traffic light at Rodeo Drive, which had been closed off to vehicles earlier in the day due to an auto show being set up in the street.

As we were at the light, a very old car, pre-Model A vintage, drove in front of us, and the unmistakable profile of the driver's prominent chin showed it was Jay Leno.

  16. Now that's some ride! In profile the front looks a tad like a VW bug; straight on it looks a little like a studebaker. And the back looks like something out of an old futuristic comic book. I certainly wouldn't mind having this one in my garage!
