Alley Art

Earlier this summer I went in search of the homes that had received "Best Alley Flower Gardens"--an annual award that encourages residents to beautify their alleys as well as their lawns. I found many outstanding gardens bordering the alleyways. I was struck, however, by another kind of art--beautifying the garage doors. When I was young, we played "kick-the-can" in alleys but I do not recall either gardens or decorated garages. Perhaps people are getting more creative and sensitive to their environments, even the most humble areas. What do you think?

  3. From your photos I think I like them; a lot.

I guess it depends somewhat on the style of house and the colors...

    Never seen this before. Thanks!

  4. I LOVE the door with the children, what a GREAT idea. My Mother lived in a small town in S.D. that had alleys and someone there painted a beautiful lake with 2 fishermen in the background, at dawn . Now I wish I had taken a picture of it! I need to start carrying my camera around with me. GREAT PICS!

  5. On the portal I thought you were already having snow....I love the mural of the wolves, and the little flower on the left adds just the right contrast/touch.

  11. The wolf garage doors are fabulous as is the other one. It probably keeps the grafitti at bay. Beautiful art work.
