Mn Worker?

A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I wonder if all these fisherman actually eat the fish they pull from the Mississippi. I guess I'd have second thoughts. Maybe I'm just too cautious.

  1. I haven't fished in ages, but I always threw them back :)
I'd love to see the Mississippi someday, though.

  2. I feel the same about the Arkansas River --- some do, though. :)

  3. I like the photo, it looks like he focused into the fishing line so much. He forgot to wear his shoes.

  4. I'm sure they eat some. Its too bad we have to be so cautious about a natural phenomenon.

  5. to be honest I never unnderstood what is fun in fishing. In my childhood at times I spent some time beside my father while he was fishing..and it was terribly boring:)

But men here also love to go out....maybe a way escaping from the wife?:)

  6. As they say -"People who can't fish, work"

    I'm pleased to see....

  7. So where do you buy your fish? Fresh? I noticed that in China, which is perhaps not yet the world leader in ecology, fish is mostly sold alive, even in modern supermarkets. People there would not trust buying dead fish - which is understandable, there.

(Have been fishing twice in my life and got one small fish, but I lost it...)

Lovely photograph, Kate. It would work almost anywhere. From sport magazine to calendar.

Mmmm, I don't have the patience to go fishing, so I'll let the others be intoxicated!

Kate I just loved your Farmers markets photos!!!

  12. To fish in the Mississippi! It sounds so exotic to me! But...I think I'd let the fishes go away in the river after having catched them!

  13. I bet they do eat them! We mainly eat farm-raised fish these days. But the EPA and other agencies monitor the rivers and post no consumption orders for sections of waterways where they find problems in the fish.

The upper Mississippi River! Actually I am embarrassed that I had no idea the Mississippi went through Saint Paul ... Your post sent me to Wikipedia to refresh me geography.

  15. Thanks for the visit to Hem's Kate. I like to use the posters because they are generally good art work & there's no copyright problem.

  16. My dad likes to fish and likes to eat it too. I know somebody who does fishing but doesn't like to eat it. I find that slightly strange.

  17. Very topical post. My Michigan newspaper carried an article over the week-end warning of dangers of eating fish from the Great Lakes! Too much chemical pollution.
I don't know how much safer is Mississippi...

  18. It's a shame that those who like to eat fish have to think twice, three times, more before eating from the rivers and streams.

And of course it's an even bigger shame for the fish who live in the polluted waters.

  19. As a kid, we lived in Vidalia, Louisiana, on the banks of the Mississippi River, directly across from Natchez, MS.

My best friend was named Rocky, and Rocky's dad hand built boats at their home and also fished on the Mississippi. I've seen several 60-90 pound catfish that he caught, and even one 110 pound one. That's probably a good thousand miles or so from where you are, and we ate them and lived.

Kinda creepy to think about now. As a kid, I had no conception of polluted waters, but thinking of a thousand miles of farming chemical's runoff from thousands of farms along the way... Scary.
