Seeing Double

This house is neat and tidy and well-maintained. It doesn't appear to have anything remarkable about it unless you take a second look. The double stairs are not the norm, and I wonder if it was just a desire for creativity and individuality that resulted in the double staircase.

The house is nice. I think the stairs or walk up repeated plus the round rocks is a little much for the house. It must have happened, the stair installation after a visit to Asheville, North Carolina and seeing the Biltmore Estate there. Very nice photograph. Clean, crisp and neat.

  5. I think the stairs are too grand for such a house. It's not Buckingham Palace, after all!

  6. Nice house - stairs are far too overdone and twee (in my view). However, whoever created them is probably proud of them, and why not? We all need to express our individuality.

  8. Hi Kate
This was quite a common feature on colonial houses in Australia - although usually on 2 storey houses. My grandmother's house has a beautiful double staircase which was a favourite playing area for my sister and I.
You could always make a grand entrance and departure and it was a great place to take a big family photo.

  9. It is distinctive, isn't it.

  10. I guess its one side for going up and one side for going down. Grand entrances could be done from those.

What a nice house! Reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in (small town Ohio). I don't think the stairs really detract; they just say the owners are proud of where they live.

  12. I love houses like this. The steps, I think, are wonderful. Wish I had steps so I could do that. :)

I think the double stairs are just part of the design. Probably not something I would do if I was designing the house but I'm sure the designer loves it.

  14. Potential solutions:

    1. The stairs were built to avoid a tree that has since been removed
    2. The house owners are bipolar

  15. Tastes are different, but at least you can feel that this has been done with love! (... and personally I like both the stairs and the house - and of course your picture.)

I love this Midwestern style of house. The stairs are a good idea, and yes it seems like a lot of effort to have the two directions.
