There's a new dog in town!
After our sweet Maggi died we decided to foster for awhile rather than go out and get another. Oliver was neutered yesterday and had 10 teeth pulled. I wondered what we had gotten into until we picked him up from the vet clinic Friday morning. He's a sweet dog, sat on my lap all the way home and is happy to be with us. He was picked up by a policeman whose family wants to adopt him after we are sure that he is healthy and recovered. We will have him until the first week of November. Lucky he is committed already or we just might have adopted him ourselves. Will I feel that way about all the dogs we foster? Could get pretty crowded in here!

What a sweetie! You are so kind to take him and foster for awhile. I hope he goes to a happy loving family. Cute photo. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteOliver looks to be a little cutie. How nice that everyone would like to adopt him.
ReplyDeleteOliver has such a sweet face! If he wanted to curl up in your lap right away I can understand why you would be charmed by him. I hope he's going to a good home.
ReplyDeleteQuite a sweet dog!
ReplyDeleteHello!:) Oh what a cute little doggie, it's good that he has a home already to go to, and will get cuddles and care from you until he goes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cuteheart! He looks like a puppy but what's up with 10 teeth having to be pulled? How old is this little darling? I can't wait to get settled in a new home so I can once again have a small dog.
ReplyDeleteKathy, This 8-10 year old dog was picked up as a stray. Oliver obvious has been in houses because he is housebroken and recognizes the refrigerator. He has had very little training since he does not know any commands: sit, stay, etc. but responds well to voices and gestures combined. Who knows where he has been!? Not afraid of either males or females or other dogs. Walks well on a leash. According to the woman from the shelter who has been doing this for 21 years, it's amazing how little pet owners know about dental hygiene for their animals. Our Maggi had her teeth brushed about 3X a week, otherwise dental work is very expensive. Oliver's teeth were rotten; imagine how difficult and painful it would be to eat! Perhaps that is one reason why he is underweight but is now eating voraciously as we soften his food. Doesn't like to have his head touched, which I associate with his bad teeth. He's still on antibiotics and pain killers which we disguise in a little food but no problem feeding him! Shelter assures me that he will do fine despite his missing teeth.
DeleteThanks for the update. I know that unless you start off at a very young age most dogs will not tolerate having their teeth brushed and for some reason smaller dogs seem to be more prone to dental problems (been there, done that!) than their bigger cousins.
Deletehope you get another as sweet soon that is all yours
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie! Good for you for doing this.
ReplyDeleteI think I would become attached and end up with a house full of dogs! He looks like a sweetie. You are wonderful to do this!
ReplyDeleteThis is a truly wonderful thing to do and a great way to celebrate your sweet Maggi's life.
ReplyDeleteNo danger you'll end up with a house full. (Says the woman with four dogs and a cat, lol.)
Oliver is a very sweet dog but I am sorry to read that he lost 10 teeth.I am sure you will take care of him excellently and I hope he will be happy with his next family (the policeman's). Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteyou're a better woman than i. i'd have them all. (and with 4 big dogs already...)
ReplyDeleteYou are a sweetheart to take this poor dog in, but we already knew that.
ReplyDeleteOliver sure is a sweetie and it's too bad he had to have all those teeth pulled. I have a powdered enzyme that I sprinkle on my dog's food that helps to keep his teeth clean and it works very well.
ReplyDeleteGood for you to foster fur babies until they are adopted and it will be hard to let them move on.
I'd surely be in danger of pretending Oliver never recovers. He looks like such a sweetie pie! He's been through quite a lot lately, hasn't he?
ReplyDeleteOh how I love dogs, but we are on the go too much to have one again. That and the fact that I am allergic to them. I think what you are doing is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh it's going to be hard to part with him Kate, but what a wonderful thing to do, fostering I mean :)
