An Old-fashioned Theatre

Last Wednesday, Birdman described a theatre he had recently visited in Texas that provided luxury seats, food plus blankets.  Sounds very modern and comfortable.  Yet, I think I prefer our neighborhood Art Deco building.  Every once in awhile we are threaten by its closure, but so far we are lucky to have this theatre still with us.

  2. It looks very much like the one we have in downtown Ocala, which has also been threatened but is somehow managing to stay open!

  5. Wow! Without that marque, it has a look of a factory to me.

  6. I've heard about those fancy dinner/bar theaters but I'm like you: I'd rather sit straight up in my seat munching on popcorn. My daughter and I went to a movie in San Antonio at a rather old theater and they actually served beer and wine at the concession stand and all the chairs had a tray attached. Sitting in the dark with a glass of wine I'd probably fall asleep 15 minutes after the movie started! Forget having a pillow!

  7. When I was working in Minneapolis, I hunted down a historic movie theater to see a movie. It wasn't this one but, I can't remember the name of it. I love places like this. I found some in St. Louis, Chicago and Denver.

  9. I like its look. Most of the downtown theatres here, aside from one that does rep and art house, have been closed down.

  10. I've never liked people eating around me at a theater ... I want to get lost in the movie without any surrounding noise ... I love these old art deco theaters ...

  11. What a classic look it has! Glad it's managed to hang on.

  12. I don't think there are any remaining theaters of this vintage in either Hartford or Naples. In fact, even theaters from the 1980s have either closed or have been renovated into the modern "wide comfortable leather seating"-type theaters (with, of course, much higher ticket prices).
