  5. This is great, but it may not suit the tastes of people when they sell their house, as art is so personal. Hopefully they will live in the house for a long time and enjoy it.

When we bought our house, it was only one year old. The sellers decided to buy a larger house from the same builder, and the builder took the house back in trade. The sellers were from the Twin Cities and it was their second home, so they had stayed in the house for only one month.

They had an artist from the Twin Cities do faux painting on the walls throughout the house, and paint murals. There was a jungle toucan scene over the fireplace in the living room. More tropical scenes in the cutouts in the hallway. And the master bedroom had giant palm trees covering one wall.

The tropical motif would not work at all with our art and furnishings. Faux painting should be done by the same artist. The sellers were having the same artist from the Twin Cities do paintings in their new house, so the builder arranged for him to come back to our house, before we moved in, to do his style of faux painting over the murals he painted the year before so the faux painting would match.

I felt really sad, knowing that the artist had to paint over the outstanding work he had done just one year earlier, to paint walls that were seen only by one family for one month, but it was something we had to do.

  6. Love that it has so many details. You can stare for a long time and always find something new.

  10. I started thinking about the idea of having a mural painted in my home, then I read Dave's comment. I think he has it right. A mural seems awfully permanent. If I were ever tempted to have something like this, I imagine I would choose to have it done as a painting.

  14. A friend's casa in St. Paul? I've been there and tiled roofs are not exactly common. This must make you long for Mazatlan. Still, the murals are nicely evocative. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
