ABC WEDNESDAY-"D"-Maggi, the Dog

Our dear dog, Maggi, is

Collared!

Poor Maggi has had a tough year, visiting the U of MN Veterinary Clinic too often.  Just when she was on the mend from a protracted illness this past winter, she developed an ear infection and has a ruptured cyst on her back which had become infected.  The inflatable collar that she is wearing to keep her away from her wounds is a big improvement from the stiff "lampshade" apparatus of yore. Without a doubt, she is the sweetest and most expensive dog we have ever owned!

  1. I have never seen an inflatable dog collar. We used a pink plastic waste basket in which we cut out the bottom when our yellow lab needed a collar. It looked silly, but it worked. And she was a girl, so the pink did not offend her.

  6. Such a sad face. The collar seems more comfortable than the cone of shame our dog had to wear.

  8. What a great idea for that type of collar. It is so much better than that old plastic thing. I hope Maggi is on the mend very quickly. She has the sweetest face.

  9. Poor Baby. One look at her face makes me want to say Awwww.
That collar is definitely an improvment. Hope she recovers quickly.

  10. OH, poor Maggi! This collar IS indeed so much nicer than the old cone type. It doesn't look like Maggi appreciates that fact, though.

  14. Aw, poor puppy! But that collar is a great improvement over those old stiff ones. At least she can rest her head comfortably. Hope she's feeling better soon and that you all have a delightful week.

  16. Poor dog. I wish her well. When I was growing up, we had a 100-pound bloodhound who bashed her tail so hard against the kitchen doors and cabinets that sometimes it bled. My father rigged up protection in the form of a rubber bicycle handlebar cover taped to the tail. It protected her tail, but it sure did a number on the door and kitchen cabinets!!!

  21. That is a picture of misery! Like others, I hadn't seen an inflatable collar before. I'm sure it's kinder on the dog and certainly kinder to your furniture. When our dog had the old 'bucket' collar, he took huge chips out of the paintwork!

  22. Aww, poor sweet Maggi! I'm sorry she's been suffering and send healing wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Looks like she's in very loving, caring hands!

The inflatable collar is brilliant! One of those, "It's so obvious now, why didn't I think of it?" things! We have three dogs and they've been through their share of having to wear the plastic "E-collar," and they hate it and we hate it. I must keep the inflatable collar in mind in case there's a need for such a thing again.

    Feel better soon, Maggi!

  23. One of life's enduring truths:
the most loved is the most expen$ive indeed.
Poor Mags but you did a fine job in capturing how she must be feeling.
Are you loving this cool weather BTW? :O)

  24. It certainly looks more comfortable but Maggi still seems to think she is wearing the 'collar of shame', bless her.

  25. Poor Maggie...she's very cute, too. And with that inflatable around her neck she needn't worry if she falls in Lake Como.
