One of our neighbors unexpectedly died, and her memorial was held in the chapel last Friday at her alma mater, Macalester College. As we left the service to cross the quad to the reception hall, the sounds of the bagpiper wafted through the air, a tradition at the school for special functions.
It seems as though we have been surrounded by death lately; it gives one pause. May I suggest that we all live in the moment and enjoy life ... now! An important lesson to learn.
I agree Kate, we tend to get bogged down with unnecessary stuff letting important things slip by! On a lighter note, I do love a man in skirt playing the bagpipes, must be the Scot in me!!
ReplyDeleteOne day at a time, I agree. But it's not always possible.
ReplyDeleteWonderful portrait. Love the sound of the pipes, on all occasions.
ReplyDeleteSage advice, Kate. We never know when it's our turn to pass on.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the loss of your neighbor. We should all remember to live each moment to the fullest. You don't know how long you've got here in this world.
ReplyDeleteYou and Brattcat each experienced a loss in the last few days. As we age, it is inevitable that we encounter the loss of friends and colleagues. It is sobering.
ReplyDeleteWise words Kate!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your neighbor. Try looking forward to next weekend and I am sure things will look up a little.
ReplyDeleteAmen. I have some friends who have suffered great losses recently as well.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about your loss. Even though I have reached an age at which people start to go, so far I have been spared any losses of family or close friends. I have told my wife and kids that when I go, I want them to hire a bagpipe band to play Amazing Grace and Mull of Kintyre. It freaks my daughter out to talk about a parent's eventual death, but like the boy scouts, Be Prepared.
ReplyDeleteGreat portrait, Kate!
