During a Drought--Wasting water?

If it had been a hot summer day, I probably would have done more than just take a photo. The city worker manning the hydrant was posing for my snap of him when a wild-eyed driver sped past through the huge water puddle in the street. Throughly drenched from head to toe to camera, I left without a close-up of the worker.

  1. Kate, that is a great photo catch. Hope you dried off quickly. The camera seems to have made it through that bath in fine shape.

  2. oy! Don't you hate it when people splash you! What a freak.

So why was that fire hydrant opened anyway?

  3. Oh dear - for a moment I thought it was the worker who was drowned and you discreetly left, but reading again I see it was you who were drowned -- hope it didn't ruin the camera.

  5. Bad luck! This happens. Some drivers pay attention, others don't!
Here in Paris the streets are also washed with a lot of water like this, but it's of course not drinking water. As I understand it comes out of the Seine somewhere upstream and goes back downstrean, so, it's actually not any spoiled water.

  6. Oh! So that's how it looks when it is working. I have never seen those when they are actually working. Thanks.

  7. That's just plain ignorant to splash someone especially with a camera. Got to protect that. Anyway, your hydrant goes with my post today.

  8. This is sopmething oyou don't see too often. Makes one want to jump and splash around in during hot weather. Don't you just hate inconsiderate drivers? I hope your camera didn't get wet.

  9. I'm hoping they were testing the hydrants or clearning the lines. I'm glad your camera did not suffer....and I can only hope you dried off rather quickly.

  12. I hope that you and the camera are in good shape.
I thought that you were getting some rain up there, but I guess not.
    We're doing ok in RI
( I think our hydrant water is right from the main drinking water supply.)

  13. Who wants a close-up with this splendid water torrent bursting out of the hydrant. By the way I love pictures of hydrants. We don't have many here and they are not painted in red!
