ZERO MINUS and Survival!: ABC WEDNESDAY "Z"
Son Karl wearing my rabbit fur hat that I purchased in Novisibirsk, Russia while celebrating New Year's Eve there a number of years ago. Survival during their harsh weather was important!!
This hat may look a little ZANY now in Minnesota, but with our current ZERO minus weather, survival here is important, too!
5:30 am: Polar Vortex continues. It is now -15F

Doesn't look zany to me, Kate!. Looks down-right smart! ;)
ReplyDeleteRussians know what cold is and how to protect you against it. I think this is a perfect hat for now. I only don't know what means the word "Zany".?
ReplyDeleteZany could be defined as "comical in an endearing way" although there is nothing amusing about staying warm and safe. The hat is somewhat comical to us since we usually do not wear a hat such as the one Karl is gladly using now!
DeleteThe perfect insulator.
ReplyDeleteThat is -26C so I would stay indoors!
ReplyDeleteI hope he was around clearing the snow for his geriatric parents....
ReplyDeleteYes, this great "kid" snowplows our driveway plus the patio for the dogs. Never misses and does a better job than any commercial business we have hired in the past! Well brought up!!
DeleteI like the hat. It would be a hit on a run. The weather guys here are freaking out over this polar vortex, not because of the temperatures up north, but because its in the teens here. You know, because people from Texas think everything ends at the Red River. UGH, LOL.
ReplyDeleteIf there was ever a time to break out the Russian hat, your weather calls for it now. Your son wears it well!
ReplyDeleteNow that looks like the perfect hat!.I hope you warm up soon.
ReplyDeleteOur kids were in Florida with us and had to return to Chicago.....they are in a deep freeze too.
I love that hat and I'm glad he's wearing it if he has to be out in the cold air.
ReplyDeletehey, i want one!! your son looks a lot like you! stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteThat hat is just the thing and I think the weather is a bit zany right now. I checked the weather yesterday and it was colder in Missouri where my sister lives than it was in Fairbanks, Alaska.
ReplyDeleteNot zany at all Kate, very necessary if the weather reports I'm seeing for your part of the world are anything to go by... Keep warm!
ReplyDeleteThe hat looks stylish and practical with our ferocious wind chills. Now, it's about that "killer" soup recipe? Perhaps you should put it on your blog so the rest of us can enjoy it, and not just Birdman.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look zany at all. It looks SANE, smart.
ReplyDeletePerfect chapeau for winter weather....
ReplyDeleteWow, with that hat and the fuzz on his face, he should stay warm and toasty in that zero or minus zero temperatures.

stay safe!
ReplyDeleteNope. Entirely too cold. If a Russian fur hat starts looking good it's time for lots of hot soup and a good book. I hope you're well supplied so you don't have to get out and about. Bless your son for being willing and for doing a good job. (And the grey in his beard is just to coordinate with the hat, right?)
ReplyDeleteI am stunned by those temperatures! Love the hat!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly covers a lot of skin, and that is necessary on these subzero days. Zany appearances don't matter.
ReplyDeleteI was out in a fleece version of that today and I didn't care what I looked like! Needed a beard for my cheeks though. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like the hat! It's perfect for "The Vortex". :)
ReplyDeleteToo, too cold for me...thank you!
ReplyDeleteLove the hat and I'll bet it is really warm.
You should be in Mexico at this time Kate...
You have a great son that helps you out. I hope this cold will pass soon.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks toasty.
ReplyDeleteMinus 15 degrees? Ouch. That might be colder than any temperature I have experienced despite a long life in cold climes.
ReplyDeleteA handsome lad and an exceptional hat.
Looks very cool!
ReplyDeleteIt is freezing here in Montreal as well. That hat is perfect for the cold weather.
ReplyDeleteThe hat looks very warm! oh, it is so cold , I haven't experienced -15F and I hope I won't ever! Stay warm .
ReplyDeleteStay warm! The fur hat is too cute.
ReplyDeleteI could have used that during our lowest this week too, Monday it was -10 in the morning hours.
ReplyDeleteann
Great pic..have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteWhen it's way below zero in Minnesota you can wear anything you want to keep warm and be considered "stylish"!
ReplyDeleteRe your question on the Appleton: The museum is named for Arthur Appleton who came to Ocala in the mid-70s and bought a horse farm. He got the idea for a museum and made it all come true in the mid-80s.
It gets pretty cold there, so it's allowable!
ReplyDeleteMostly here our forecasters don't go nuts and panic about winter weather... though the ones in Toronto stations seem to be the exception, panicking when there's ten centimetres of snow forecast.
