Art and Artists #2
Yesterday I showed you work of 8th grade students that are on exhibit at the Drake Gallery at St. Paul Academy and Summit School. These paintings were executed by 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. When I was still teaching English at this school before I retired, the Art Department was my favorite place to visit when I had some free time. It was always a pleasure to watch the instructors and students doing their work. Made me a little jealous, too, because visual arts looks like a lot more fun than grading essays!

The artistic talent awakened and/or cultivated in some young is eclipsed only by their imagination and creativity that has not been dulled by longer life experiences, such as having to work for a living for decades.
ReplyDeleteWow.
ReplyDeleteI'm particularly moved by that feathery last one. There's a story there that I want to see unfold.

Intense images, love them. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing talent, I hope they continue to hone their skills. My nephew was an excellent artist when he was in high school but at some point he quit and wouldn't pick it up again. So sad.
ReplyDeleteInteresting art. Make you want to meet the artists. An Arkie's Musings
ReplyDeletejust wonderful!
ReplyDeleteFantastic art! I can see why you were drawn to the art department.
ReplyDeleteinteresting face-mask on the third one
ReplyDeleteThe last one with the feathers is really cool.
ReplyDeleteThese are all excellent. Obviously, the school has some very talented students. The first one could be a poster for "Pirates of the Caribbean."
ReplyDeleteTalented students! Art does look like fun, doesn't it. I wonder if grading art is any easier than marking essays though. It's usually easy to recognize the really good works, the mediocre not so easy to grade.
ReplyDeleteI recognize Jack Sparrow, I like their use of colors.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work from these young artists. There had to be a story, or essay, behind every painting! I feel that stories and images go hand in hand. One compliments the other!
ReplyDeleteThose are GOOD!

ReplyDeleteSuch talented young artists - and, obviously, the teachers are motivators/inspiration...and good teachers!
ReplyDeleteVery good work, particularly that last one. It really draws my attention.
