Today this school and all other public schools (as well as many private schools) in the state of Minnesota will be closed because of harsh weather conditions. Despite howls of protests from some parents worried about child care, I applaud our governor's decision.
5:00 AM-It is officially -22 degrees Fahrenheit right now! Wind Chill is -37F --Can you believe it? Why do we live here??
This winter sure is a crazy one! Yes, a good decision to close the schools. It's way to easy to get frostbite in such cold weather.
ReplyDeletewe don't have any snow but our windchill is supposed to be -20 tomorrow...wow...i've never been in any temp that cold!
ReplyDeleteThat is very cold -30 C. Haven't felt that for a long time. We are having one the warmest winters here 14 C (57.2 F) isn't it weird? The weather is confused everywhere it seems. Wish you all the best and stay warm.
ReplyDeleteOh Kate. So sorry. Stay in and stay warm. We have just returned from Florida where it was 80 degrees....So this 15 degrees inFt. Worth this morning is an eye opener.
ReplyDeleteWe love it!
ReplyDeleteRemember: SOUP!
The only time school closed when I was young was because of an ice storm.
ReplyDeleteYikes! That is way too cold. Here I was complaining that it was too cold in London on my November trip and the high there was 40 to 43. I can't begin to imagine those negative numbers.
ReplyDeleteWe're getting some of the same weather here. I was supposed to be in transit today, but a look at the forecasts, I decided to postpone a day.
ReplyDeleteOh my! That is too cold for me. That is colder than it was in Fairbanks, Alaska! What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteNo, we don't have a Corvette, but if we did, I would want a 1965 model. I took those at that Corvette club event that we had last summer.
I was just teasing about ownership of 3 Corvettes!
DeleteBack in the 50s in Minneapolis, we would have temps where it didn't get above -20 for a week or two at a time. My old car always broke down at -24 in the middle of the night! But I don't remember wind chills like you're having now. Maybe they didn't calculate wind chills then. I agree with the governor, too. Frostbite takes just a few minutes and there's too many kids out on street corners waiting for buses. It's even worse further north!
ReplyDeleteBundle up! This, too, will pass.
always glad when they opt for safety.
ReplyDeleteAnd amazingly, it is bright and sunny as we approach the day's high of -12 degrees. I hope you are staying indoors today, Kate.
ReplyDeleteI'm asking myself the same question here, Kate!
ReplyDeletedon't you normally head to New Mexico at this time of year???
ReplyDeleteYes, we're leaving at the end of the month. . .certainly not soon enough this year! Leaving the house and parrot in the capable hands of our son who moves in while we are gone.
DeleteSevere weather drove me out of MN way back in early 1997 .. two sons and my daughter as well. One intrepid son left in Richfield ... I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteI'm shivering just looking at this post.
ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to comprehend that kind of cold.
Stay warm and safe Kate.
Your weather is all over the news here along with our flood condition. Not nice! Hope you are safe!
ReplyDeleteThe kids will probably love this though. :)
ReplyDeleteI see you're headed to NM at the end of the month. Minnesota temps certainly won't make that an unhappy exodus! The more I hear temperatures (especially those wind chills) reported, the more unreal it becomes. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteStay warm, Kate. After many decades in New England and other winters in Ohio, I got quite familiar with cold weather, but this is beyond anything I have encountered. And, five years ago I saw the light and fled the north in the winter!
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand parents today. Stay toasty.
ReplyDeleteI figured that you sweet snow birds would have already headed south (southwest). Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
B-r-r-r! It's cold in Virginia too!
ReplyDeleteSo weird Kate, your schools are closing because of the cold weather, ours close when we have more than a few days of 40C!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that all of the schools in the state were closed made the news on this side of the border. It's fierce, and today I'm travelling in the midst of all that...
ReplyDeleteWhenever I get home, that is...
Keep warm!
