I found this chest in the gift shop at the Museum of Russian Art to be extraordinarily beautiful!

It is beautiful Kate, every panel tells a story by the look of it. p.s. I know exactly what you mean about the long flights, that's the only thing wrong with living in Perth, it's just sooo far away!
Oh,my, was this chest actually for sale? Surely not. I can't imagine anyone other than the hopelessly wealthy being able to afford such a piece of art.
Beauty of a find. As some of the other readers are, I am a big fan of painted furniture also. Wonderful choice of colors the artist chose. An heirloom one would think!
Russians are superb at woodworking and painting intricate designs.
