There are a number of coyotes in Stone Creek where we still have our villa [twinhome] (which we are trying to sell). In a couple of instances they have actually sort of "chased" residents to the point where the residents ran to the nearest house - happened early evening. I haven't heard of any incidents lately, though. One evening Lois was out running in a scrub area and she was badly frightened - sounded like 50 of them just a few feet away. Later we learned that just 2 or 3 can raise a holy racket. :)
huge amen to that sign! two coyotes once tried to take my yellow lab in our back pasture - in broad daylight - while my husband and i were just across the yard yelling and screaming!
I never thought about coyotes being in your area. But then I wouldn't have thought they were in Lowell's area either. I guess they are everywhere. We have them but We don't have warnings about them but we do have notices about bear and mountain lions.
There have been quite a few instances of coyotes wandering around right in the centre of Toronto. They travel around the large network of ravines we have and sometimes grab cats and small dogs if they can.
It seems that coyotes have become much more common in New England's suburbs, too, probably because development is removing more and more of their natural habitat.
We see them quite often in Arizona. They don't put up warning signs, as they would have to put the signs up all over the place. Everyone knows there are coyotes in Arizona, even in Scottsdale and Phoenix.
Interesting sign!!! We need one that says "don't feed the bear cub...he will grow up and cause lot's of damage to your home looking for more food!" We have an orphaned bear cub around here who we just heard is being fed by folks in the area...a major no-no in bear etiquette!
I see it first time in my life and I wonder what should I have to do if I meet coyotes on my way?
ReplyDeletethe poor old coyote!
ReplyDeleteGood idea to post that sign. We could use some signs like that around these parts.
