Another Bassonist
Yesterday I posted the photo of bassoonist Andrea who is a member of the JCC Symphony Orchestra. She and Larry played a piece of Johann Baptist Vanhal's Concerto for 2 Bassoons and Orchestra. Larry began his music studies when he was 8, first on the clarinet, switching to bassoon when he was 12. Currently he is the principal bassoonist in both the Health Sciences Orchestra and the Minnetonka Civic Orchestra. Larry and his wife Suzanne share their home with two Bernese mountain dogs, Butler and Chef.

do buy a copy of the book 'what you wish for' if you can manage it, kate. ALL proceeds go toward building libraries in darfuri refugee camps.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought of the bassoon as an unusual instrument that makes beautiful music.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a difficult instrument to play, I wonder it=f you have to hold your mouth and tongue a certain way to make the perfect sound.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
ReplyDeleteLooks like y'all had a great time at the concert! and you are making the most of the winter season. I just received your Christmas Card~ thank you! What a fun surprise! :) yours should be there shortly :)
Enjoyed the brief bios of the basoon players. When you listen to a symphony you hear the total sound and it's nice to focus on individuals.
ReplyDeleteNice shots of the musicians. You must have had great seats.
ReplyDeleteSo, you can feed two Bernese mountain dogs and pay their veterinary bills on a bassoonist's salary? I learn something new every day.
ReplyDeleteYa gotta love the bassoon to start playing it when you're 12. Thank goodness there are such people.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the bassonists. We love the sound of a good bassoon.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
He looks deep into his music.
