Josephine Dickinson became profoundly deaf at age six from meningitis, but managed to become a musician and music teacher! Gradually she turned to poetry and the stage at the Fitzgerald Theatre was graced by her presence last Thursday when she read her poems with another poet, Galway Kinnell.

ReplyDeleteWow! Inspirational post for a Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHow did you enjoy her poetry?
Speaking of inspirational - I enjoyed your Fitzgerald series and learning that you were an English teacher for 28 years?! My thanks and gratitude!
On the other hand...now I have to watch my writing ;-)What pressure!
Kate, listening to her must have been an inspiration for her audience. It reminds me of a Scottish percussionist, who is deaf, and who is highly-sought soloist. I feel embarrassed because i can't think of her name....she is brilliant.
