Friends of the Children

I haven't posted any St. Paul murals for a long time, but this one caught my eye. Actually I've been looking at it for a few years whenever I visit the ice cream parlour next door to it. The mural represents a national philanthropic organization called Friends of the Orphans. Recently it has received some favorable press in the St. Paul Pioneer press newspaper. Read this article to discover how dozens of people in Wisconsin and Minnesota raised 3.5 million dollars to build a hospital in Haiti where 50% of deaths are those of childen! Today I stopped in their office to check about volunteer activities.

PS. I just tipped the scales at 250 blogs for this blog!

  2. That's an awesome amount of money that will go so far in Haiti. They desperately need good affordable health care there.
I think its wonderful that you are checking out the volunteering situation there.

And hello to St. Paul (I do not know what your opinion of GKeillor is, I loved listening to his radio shows when they still came out of St. Paul's),

(I can neither blog nor write comments on my own blog so far, today)
P.S.: I adore Pierre's Venice, he was the one who made me go there after so many years of travelling only through Mestre on the way to Rome.

  5. Whenever there are events making us doubt our own humanity, a story like yours comes up to balance it all...

PS How often do you visit that ice-cream parlour ;-)
