An Early Gift

Merry Christmas to me!!

A little thing like a total knee replacement on August 18th and  unexpected nerve damage, making my left foot numb as a result of the surgery cannot keep down a "nasty woman who votes." According to tests, complete recovery of tibial nerve is inconclusive.

Last week I joined a hiking club (check this link) to test my agility and ability to walk a significant distance. Members of the club were both welcoming and encouraging. I think that these hiking shoes will spur me on! Now I need some collapsable walking sticks (gotta get 'em in a suitcase),
Santa?!

  1. Sorry to read about the nerve damage. I know how much you enjoy your walks. But, you are indomitable! That hiking group will do wonders for you, maybe in terms of getting feeling back in that foot but, for sure, getting you in touch with outgoing and outdoorsy new friends. Go, girl!

  3. Those look like really good walking shoes. I'm betting that walking club will give you a big boost. Sorry to hear about the nerve damage. My doctor told me after some surgery two years ago, that it takes the nerves quite a long time to find their connections again. I still have a few numb spots on my torso.

  4. Hopefully the hiking will stimulate the nerve endings and help your recovery! Those shoes look great!

  5. Great looking hikers, and I love Keens. I am sorry to hear about the nerve damage, however. The hiking group sounds like the perfect blend of motivation and comaraderie to get you back out there. Can you take WW on your hikes?

  6. Nerve damage?! So sorry to hear this! (I understand that it's sometimes possible to recover but nerves heal very slowly. And from personal experience I've found we can learn to compensate.) May you walk many happy miles in your cool looking new shoes. My collapsible walking poles don't fit into small suitcases for overhead storage but are fine in checked luggage.

  7. Be careful with those hiking sticks. I've found mine collapse when they shouldn't.
