Indian Summer
Indian summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. The US National Weather Service defines this as weather conditions that are sunny and clear with above normal temperatures, occurring late-September to mid-November. It is usually described as occurring after a killing frost. (Credit: Wikipedia) The Old Farmer's Almanac is more specific and refers to the belief that it originated between the Native Americans and early New England settlers.
Whatever version one may believe, I think that many of us have thoroughly enjoyed our Indian Summer this year. Leaves are slowly falling and many yards and streets are carpeted with red, orange, and yellow leaves.

We have been experiencing a beautiful Indian summer here...but I hesitate to mention it since I don't want to jinx it.

We are bracing for a cold front and severe storms in north Texas tomorrow. Nice picture.
ReplyDeleteIt's always welcome. We're getting into frostier days. I think the warm days are behind us.
ReplyDeleteOne version of the story holds that the Indians waited until after the frost and then attacked the settlers as they worked to get their fields ready for winter.
ReplyDeleteYep, I do love Indian summer! And I love shuffling through leaves too. ;)
