The Burley
Sometimes it is hard to get rid of something that has given pleasure. When they were young I had biked my grandkids around our neighborhood for short pleasurable outings on sunny days. After they had grown out of the Burley, I sometimes used it for grocery shopping, but it's too cumbersome for that task. It's time to give it up. Why is it difficult to give up an object that holds memories?

My wife and I have a different perspective on the question you have presented. My parents were pack rats and I tend to keep things. her mantra is that if we haven't used something in a year, it goes to Goodwill. She wins, unless I can hide whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteDon't give it up Kate, the minute you do...you know you'll find a use for it :)
ReplyDeleteI've been doing a lot of "cleaning out" lately so I know exactly what you mean. Some things are very hard to part with.
ReplyDeleteawww. i completely understand!
ReplyDeleteI have trouble letting go of things that bring back fond memories also. I think what helps is when I picture someone else getting joy out of it. I have a bike trailer for my dog to ride in. He loves it and jumps in whenever he sees it. They are called "Doggyride" and made by a German company. We got ours from their office in Washington State.
ReplyDeleteYou could always stick it in the garden and use it as a planter!!!!
ReplyDeleteA planter would be a very different use for it...
ReplyDeleteI'm with TheChieftess!
ReplyDeleteIf were not for the memories they bring to mind it would be easy to part with kept items. Memories have a way of turning things into treasures!
ReplyDeleteThink how much faster you are going to be without that contraption dragging behind you on the bike.
ReplyDeleteI've seen them with dogs inside.
ReplyDeleteYour memories of fun adventures will always be with you....let it go so that it can make new memories for another.
ReplyDeleteI too try to convince myself that it will be perfect for someone else. That often works. But that nostalgia pull is very hard. Sometimes it feels like they're going to have to bury me with some of the really sentimental stuff.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. But I say keep this photo for the memories and give the Burley away. ;)
ReplyDeleteEG has some good advice!
