Obama Surprised Laurie, co-owner of the Golden Fig!

Guest Photographer, Dr. Susan Schloff (a former student of mine):  She was in the right place at the right time and has graciously allowed me to post her timely photos here.

Yesterday Barack Obama visited the Twin Cities scheduling stops at two Minneapolis Parks, a Town Meeting, a viewing of Minnehaha Falls, a lunch at Matt's Bar sharing a "Juicy Lucy" lunch with a woman who had written a letter to him earlier this year,  and a surprise visit to the Golden Fig on Grand Avenue in St Paul. Laurie is one of the co-owners of the shop,  an innovative entrepreneur who has been selling her wares at the Farmers Market for years.  Go visit the store after checking it out here. You can order online, too.

  1. Must have been quite a stir up and excitement in your town because of the visit.

  3. Oh that is nice, I guess Obama didn't eat all the stuff on his own. Must have been excited to have him in town. I remember his visit in Amsterdam, everybody was over the moon.

  6. I saw him at a distance when he first visited Ottawa. He was stepping into our market building, bought a few things. Certainly a memorable day for her and the shop.

  7. That had to have been a thrilling moment for Laurie, and it was a simple act of kindness for him to leave the note on her receipt; but quite indicative of a graciousness which has become all too rare.
Good job your former student did!

  9. How fun for Laurie! I'm still thrilled with the thought that I met him a few years before his election. I still have the photo on my refrigerator door.

  10. How cool is that! My sister, Sharon, met him once at a book signing and has pictures to prove it.

  11. $15 for vinegar! And he actually carries cash around? It wouldn't happen like that here.

  13. It looks like he took a few souvenir treats home...or a little somethin' for the boys on the bus.

  14. Laurie will remember this day forever. I doubt presidents carry cash or credit cards. That's what they use personal assistants for!
