Art in Bloom

For the 28th year the Minneapolis Institute of Arts again held the Arts in Bloom exhibit.  The objective is to have florists and floral arrangers pair a creative bouquet with a work of art which is on exhibit in the museum.  My favorite this year is an arrangement with "Frank," a portrait by Chuck Close.  The bouquet consisted of curly willow, rose petals, moss, pincushion portea, calla lily and pom poms.  Irene Harnett, the creator, said, "The hair was my inspiration for choosing this work of art, I like using curly willow and thought it would be fun to twist and turn it into his head of curls.  The vivid colours from the pincushion protea make a great beard, spikey  and beautiful..."

I'll post a few more pieces of art and bouquets in the next few days.

  2. I love these "art in bloom" shows. I have been to them many times in Hartford and in Columbus, Ohio, where I worked for six years. Art and flowers go together so well. This is a creative interpretation of Close's work.

  6. I love this. It just so happens I was at an art show yesterday that featured blossoms as well. I hope to post some photos soon...but first I have to through them to see if any are good enough to publish. :) I look forward to seeing what else you saw at this show.

  7. Fun and a bit funky! Got to hand it to you St. Paulians!

Re your comment on Ocala: I really don't know if the Brahmas are raised for food but probably. They are part of an entire herd of about 2500 - the rest being regular beef cattle. Lots of little ones this time of year...
