Sitting It Out
After several calls to tech support and three visits to an Apple store I had to leave my MacBook Air
at the shop so that one of their Genuises could wipe the slate clean and reinstall the only upgrade that my 7-year-old computer could handle. How can a computer of that age be considered OLD?! I do not want to replace it and will use it as long as I can before it dies a peaceful death. When I picked it up yesterday it looked terrific, but now I have to relearn part of the new format. I think that I have a love hate relationship with the internet and technology.

Seven years is ancient with technology!
ReplyDeleteLove your image. There is nothing I like better than a bench seat - especially on a bush walk.
I feel the same way. I don't like changes as far as my computer is concerned. :)
ReplyDeleteComputers can be both a pain and useful at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI had only one computer that lasted five years, all others died off around 3-4 years. Unfortunately for consumers, computers are not met to last long. Good luck with your new updated computer.
ReplyDeleteLovely bench image, Kate!
I'm with you! Computers have an inherent drive to drive one crazy! Actually, if you can get 2-3 years out of a computer you're lucky, although my iMac is now going on 8 years and my PC about 15 years. But I don't worry about you, because you are a brilliant person who can find solutions when they don't seem to exist and thus you also know when to scrap the machine for something new. Uh oh. I hope DH is not reading this! :)) Thanks for your kind words, Kate. Take good care of yourself; we can't afford to lose people like you!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly don't make them to last.
ReplyDeleteMy computer is the same vintage and the new iMacs don't come with cd readers, etc so I am loth to get rid of mine!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your computer. My last one started getting dicey at around 5 years and then I started getting messages from Hewlett Packard that they no longer supported my model. I was several versions behind in both my operating system and my Photoshop editing software and Photoshop wasn't acting right. I couldn't update one without updating the other. It's very difficult to avoid coercion into updates.
ReplyDeleteI hate computer changes too. My computer is about 6 or 7 years old and last year I had to update the system to Windows 10. Everything changed and there were old things I no longer knew where they were and new things I didn't know how to work with. Eventually I got used to it, but it was frustrating!!
ReplyDeleteYep, just gotta keep up with the times. :-) I'm still getting adjusted to the MojaveOS.
