Therapy dogs need to be trained to be comfortable around people in wheelchairs, using walkers or walking with crutches. During the training, volunteers walk among and greet the dogs that are learning these important lessons, especially if the dogs are eventually going to be visiting hospitals, nursing homes or places where people are using this kind of equipment.

ReplyDeleteAmazing to me how well these dogs can be trained.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fine looking dog. I think it might be a standard poodle, one of the smartest of all dogs.
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to pick up the lessons quickly, don't they?
ReplyDeleteGood post for theme day.
ReplyDeletePerfect for the day! A friend has been taking her dogs to long term care facilities for years and the residents do so love the visits.
ReplyDeleteThey do very good work. So sweet they can learn all those difficult be haviours to help a human being.
ReplyDeleteThe big white dog in this photo looks so much like our Bear who died this summer. He was a labradoodle with lots of Standard Poodle in him. We still miss him.
ReplyDeleteTheraphy dogs are priceless, their work gives so much comfort to a lot of folks. Great theme day photos, Kate.
