Minnesotans are hearty folks. Construction takes place year round, even when the temperature is in the minus double digit range. I won't even mention the wind chill factor! This is going to be a huge addition for the science and math departments in the school where I used to teach. A 1943 graduate generously donated millions of dollars for this state-of-the-art building: science on the first floor and math on the second. Despite a generous scholarship endowment, not everyone can enjoy the education that is available here. My greatest wish is that all students would be able to attend a school that matched the facilities and faculty of this wonderful school.
Cannot even imagine trying to work in such weather. It's going to be a wonderful addition. Unfortunately, so long as the "fortunates" are in power, those out in the cold will never receive the kind of education they deserve.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I pass the school I used to attend there's another new building hiding the place I knew. Like much of what I learned there the old school will soon be forgotten!
ReplyDeleteWell at least they can work on behind the constructions.
ReplyDeleteI feel sure that your wish I shared by many. Construction workers in this type of weather demand a lot of respect!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that wish! Education has been undervalued by so many people.
ReplyDeleteScaffolding like that often goes up around some of the projects here.
ReplyDeleteConstruction workers are tough!
ReplyDeleteConstruction in the cold season gives me the shivers.
ReplyDeleteBut what will happen to those ice walls when the weather warms up?
ReplyDeleteWe have a law here in NZ that is everyone is entitled to enjoy a free education, of course this does not include university but sadly realistically education here is not free and never will be, by the time you pay for school books and school fees which the schools push parents to pay it adds up to quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteHopefully your wish will come true one day Kate, how fantastic that would be! Meanwhile I just can't even begin to imagine the kind of cold you are experiencing, brrrr! Has WW got a nice warm coat?
ReplyDeleteWow this will be incredible when finished! Bless those construction workers! Can't imagine working outside in that cold!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fabulous addition. How exciting to learn in such a facility!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will be great for the students. People there are made of a hardy stock. Here, we have trouble when we get a little rain (although right now, a little rain is the least of our problems). Burn, rain, mudslides...
