Where Are the Lawn Signs?

In previous years many yards in our neighbourhood had lawn signs that supported the home owners' person(s)-of-choice. As our homes on our street gradually lost retired people, younger families moved in with fewer homes displaying political signs.  Perhaps it is a change in political styles and preferences.  This year as November 8 approaches, there is a noticeable absence of lawn signs. From Fairview to Cleveland Avenues, these are the only two presidential campaign signs along the street. Perhaps this is a statement of political malaise or something else?

  1. Maybe they're just not interested. Over here when the election was called, they had 3 weeks to campaign and have their signs displayed. After that, all signs must be done within a week or fines are levied against the violators. Not all elections are 3 weeks but this last one was. It is quite different but then again you don't have millions of dollars and years of campaigning to deal with.

  2. It is the same in our neighborhood here in Northern Virginia. Every year since I have lived here (25 years) there has been an over abundance of political signs and this is the first year there have been none.

  3. Perhaps people are afraid of being vandalized for their choice. People do seem to be getting touchy about it. I don't think putting a sign out helps anyone get elected and all those signs are an eyesore that we have to look at for months.

  4. Here election campaigns are relatively short- a few weeks, instead of what seems endless in America, and the rules are strict about signage, in terms of time it can be posted.

I know some homeowners put out signs of support. I wouldn't do so myself.

  5. I hate all these signs. Do people really think they'll change anyone's mind?

  6. Like William said above we get the signs only for a short time and then they must be taken down!

  7. Tom and I were discussing the exact same thing. I suspect this is an unusual election...

  8. Not many signs here, either. I'm afraid it reflects widespread disappointment in the candidates . I've encountered a lot of hostility toward Clinton. It puts a damper on my enthusiasm for finally having a woman candidate.

  9. Maybe people have lost their interest in politics.

  11. You are right about the lack of political lawn signs this year. I have noticed a much reduced number of them, and those that are out are mostly for Democrat candidates. Not sure why?

  12. I just have to say that I have not seen political signs in gardens here in Norway. Some I have seen on cars and some walk around with a t-shirt with a political message.
