An area surrounding the campus. Over the years the "funky" aspect of the area has been overrun by more modern establishments. The iconic Grey's Drug Store has been replaced by a restaurant, for heaven's sakes!
Ha, That reminds me when my sister was visiting somewhere and remarked "there was nothing to read. I found myself reading all four sides of the cereal box".
Hi Kate, Magnificent way of encourage people to read! I love this one also: “A book lying idle on a shelf is wasted ammunition. Like money, books must be kept in constant circulation. A book is not only a friend, it makes friends for you. When you have possessed a book with mind and spirit, you are enriched. But when you pass it on you are enriched threefold.” ― Henry Miller, The Books in My Life
Ha, ha, funny signs but so true!
ReplyDeleteCannot argue with the veracity of either statement.
ReplyDeleteDinkytown? An actual name of a town or a part of the campus?

ReplyDeleteMaybe I am obtuse, but that parenthetical phrase about dysentery seems like a non sequitur.

And poor Jefferson (literally, poor) had to sell his library to the Library of Congress...
ReplyDelete(I doubt if Nick Hornby will ever have to do the same.)
