I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the so-called appetizer that was brought to the table next to ours at the outdoor patio where we were dining. At the time I thought it was pretty unusual. The small French fried onion rings were molded into a rectangular shape about the size of a regular bread loaf. The five men who were preparing to feast on it were pretty good sports and let me photograph the appetizer. I still think it is unusual but also pretty disgusting. After eating this unusual appetizer, they all ordered huge hamburgers! Equally amazing, during our meal, three more patrons ordered the same appetizer. I can assure you that the other cuisine we ate in Door County restaurants were more sophisticated and far more appealing.

sympa le partage du repas, cela donnerait envie, enfin pour ce midi
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to try that thing!
ReplyDeleteA bit like "Chilli's" "Awesome Blossom".
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your quail's eggs and pate foie gras despite the virtual heart attack on the next table..!
I'm glad you photographed it in front of the men to give the size its perspective! No wonder you were amaZed!

looks good, just need some ranch or blue cheese dressing to dip it in, lol
ReplyDeleteThis is like beach food, without the beach.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd even try it.....well, what the heck...maybe I would nibble on it. But probably leave it to the men to devour.
ReplyDeleteWood Stork
i can't quite figure out HOW to eat it.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I like onions so I might have liked a bite or two....but it's far too much for one person, I think.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize how big it was until I saw the second picture!
ReplyDeleteThere was a restaurant in my home town that i used to frequent with my friends that served the same thing. It was a big block of very finely cut onion rings. We would pull it apart and eat the yummy onion strings. I haven't had that in years.
ReplyDeleteOh, onion rings are big deal here. One popular restaurant we occasionally go to when we're in town, a small order will feed four people, and a large order is about 18 inches high. They are of course the large onion rings rather than the little compressed ones here. I happen to LOVE onion rings so I would definitely dig into them!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that it is something I would like to taste but obviously they had big appetites.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Roger, it does look like "man food". But I must admit, I would have to try just a tiny taste of that.
ReplyDeleteWell, my man wasn't the least bit interested! If you saw it, you might change your mind about eating it!
DeleteI have read recently that onion rings are supposed to be healthier than French fries. The differential, however, was omitted. My feeling is that it is miniscule. But I do love fried onion rings - the ones they serve at Outback that about about 10,000 calories per teaspoon!
ReplyDeleteWowser! That is a lot of food! My husband and I don't usually even order an appetizer and split the entree!
ReplyDeleteThis is like the onion blossom at the Outback restaurant.
ReplyDeleteQuite tasty but a little bit goes a long way.
Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteJust great to see the books you have recently read. Love books too.
ReplyDeleteStraight to the arteries!
ReplyDeleteWhere are my Rolaids.
ReplyDeleteThat looks yummy!
